Wardrobe Management
When you open your wardrobe in the morning going to dress up yourself for work, have you found yourself saying any of these sentences in the past few days ?
- I haven’t got anything to wear.
- I couldn’t find my dress.
- My ….. is in the wash !
If yes, then welcome to my gang. I am also that type of person who has entire closet messed up with clothes and still she thinks that she has nothing to wear. I challenged myself to be little organized when it comes to wardrobe management. And guess what, I found myself free from all the daily hassles of finding what to wear ? It also saves quite a lot of my time.
I would like to share few tips of wardrobe management which will make your life easier and stress free.
Dress Management
Yes ladies, you read it correctly! Managing closet is an art and you being the owner of your assets needs to learn about its Management. It’s not difficult at all. Only you should know the basic principle i.e Supply Vs Demand. That means based upon your requirements, categorize between Formal, Casual , Party wear, Gym Wear, Daily Wear and Ethnic Wear. This will give you visibility about your actual pieces verses how many new pieces you have to buy. And also you will get a fair idea of space left in your closet. 😉
Apply LIFO & FIFO
LIFO & FIFO are Inventory Management terms and you can also apply the same to your wardrobe / closet. First of all, stack all your apparels based on their categories. Then apply LIFO or FIFO. LIFO stands for Last In First Out i.e you need to start wearing the dress which is kept last in your stack or apply FIFO which stands for First in First Out i.e you need to start wearing the first dress on your stack. You can follow which ever way is convenient to you. And all your apparels will see sunshine and air some day.
Avoid Window Shopping
If you are Shopaholic like me, this is the most difficult task as 99 percent of the time, I couldn’t resist myself to buy something which is not my ‘necessity’ but ‘desire’. Therefore I have started avoiding window shopping and have asked my husband to hold my hands when I come across ZARA, Forever 21, H&M etc. This practice has really helped me last few times.
Learn Styling from On-line shopping websites
If you are crazy for On-line shopping, try to resist yourself from buying any apparel but learn styling by looking at models wearing different clothes. You can also take inspiration from an Instagram or Pinterest. This will help you to style your old pieces and get a new look for your old dresses. You can invest in few accessories for Styling like belts, scarf, shrugs, hats, neck-pieces, clutches, bags and even studs and danglers. You can notice the difference by yourself.
Make Budget for your new arrivals
Start making monthly or quarterly budget for your new dresses and try to adhere the same. This will not only help you to do sensible shopping but you would be able to save wisely.
Trade with your Bestie
If you have a little sister or bestie of your size, you can trade each other dresses if you are tired of wearing your old dresses. You will embrace yourself for few days.
Be Ruthless – you only use 20% of your clothes 80% of the time!
I know ladies, this is really hard. But you need to take a strong step and donate all those dresses which you are never going to wear in future due to endless reasons. This will not only create a space in your closet/wardrobe but gives you an opportunity to help others in need to make their own special memories through your dresses.
Now gear up and get started…remember, it’s just your small one time effort for managing your wardrobe. Once you are done managing your wardrobe, you will not only feel good but have total visibility of your apparels and you can concentrate on other important stuff in your life.
Do share me your tips for wardrobe management in the comments below.

October 28, 2015Guess who’s about to empty out her closet? This chick lol. These are actually some really good tips, especially the pinterest inspiration one. I definitely get alot of ideas of what to buy from pinterest, but for some reason I’ve never thought to use it to get ideas for what I already have… the light bulb has been turned on!

October 22, 2015Ha, the hubs hates when I say I have nothing to wear and I have all these clothes in the closet. 🙂 I actually need to go in there and donate stuff I haven’t used in a while or from last season.
My closet is pretty organized. I have long sleeve in the back, short sleeves in the front and pants and skirts in front of that. And oh my goodness if a hanger is facing the wrong way or if the hubs puts his shirt on a hanger all sloppy it drives me nuts but that’s more my OCD talking :).
Great suggestions here though…I do love the LIFO and FIFO idea. Thanks for sharing!
