7 Tips to Look Gorgeous This Summer

Summertime comes with social gatherings, plenty of bare skin, and often lots of occasions to get hot, sweaty, and wet. It’s a tough job to look amazing while enjoying all that summer has to offer. Beat the heat in style by using smart strategies when caring for your skin and putting on your makeup.

Here are these 7 tips for summer makeup that won’t fail you:

1. Hydrate Your Skin with Oil Free Options

Dry skin is a problem that many people are painfully aware of in the winter. Cracked, sore, dry skin and chapped lips are often the names of the game. You don’t expect to face those sorts of challenges in the summer, though. Unfortunately, the reality is that while dry skin in the summer is rare, dehydrate skin is very common.

The hot temperatures of summer require the body to use more water to stay hydrated throughout many basic life processes. Your skin, along with the rest of your body, can be dehydrated along the way. That’s why it is so important for you to hydrate your skin throughout the summer.

A word of warning though many hydrating products contains oil. Using products contained oil can make your skin sticky and can lead to acne breakouts. Choose hydrating products that are oil free to keep your skin moisturized and fresh for makeup application.

2. Pay Extra Attention to Your Pores

Another essential step for preparing your skin for no-fail makeup during the summer is taking care of your pores. While you are running around outdoors, diving in pools, and otherwise enjoying warm weather activities, your pores are being bombarded with impurities. Sweat certainly doesn’t help, either.

Take the time to clean those poor pores out. Use a skin peel to soothe your skin, pull impurities out of your pores, and clean your skin thoroughly. You can make your skin peel using ingredients like apple cider vinegar, honey, fruit juice, gelatin, and ground up aspirin.

3. Use Denser Concealers

Lightweight concealers may not absorb into your skin very well. As a result, they may also come off more easily when you sweat or get wet. If you blot your face to remove sweat during the hotter months, you may also be accidentally blotting concealer off. Choose denser concealers with a higher powder content.

4. Turn Lipstick Into Blush

For the most part, blush is designed to add color to your cheeks. It is not typically tailored to withstand water, sweat, dirt, and humidity. Lipstick, on the other hand, is often designed with endurance in mind since the lips have to do a lot of work while all dolled up. Use a shade of lipstick as blush during the summer if you want your rosy cheek color to last.

5. Go Waterproof

One of the most obvious requirements of a summer-proof makeup routine is that you use makeup that is waterproof. Water is just too big a part of summer fun to ignore. Whether you plan to swim, sweat, dance in the rain, or even just hang out in a humid outdoor space, there’s a good chance that your skin will be damp during the summer. Don’t let the wet smudge your look.

Use products that are waterproof or that are built to last. Lipsticks, Mascara, and concealers can all be found relatively easily in waterproof varieties. There are also some fixative products that can be applied over top of other makeup to keep the rest of the makeup in place.

Find natural ways to enhance your looks without using excess makeup (that might smudge and run) as well. For instance, learn how to plump your lips by exercising them, dieting a certain way, or choosing lip balms that contain herbs that improve circulation.

6. Become an Expert Blotter

Since sweat and dampness are largely unavoidable during the summer, you will need to blot your face occasionally to remove water or sweat. Blotting too forcefully can block pores and cause acne. Blotting too carelessly can smudge makeup. Learn to blot expertly to keep your face from looking oily and your makeup from getting ruined. Try tips like getting proper blotting paper and dabbing with the grain of applied makeup.

7. Don’t Skip Sunscreen

As tempting as it can be when you spend so much time applying your makeup, never skip sunscreen. Especially in the summer, when the sun is hottest and most direct on the skin, sunscreen is essential. Burnt, unhealthy skin is hard to cover up and can be very painful. The best time to apply sunscreen is before applying your makeup. Take a few minutes to allow your skin to absorb the sunscreen and then get your face ready to make a gorgeous splash on a beautiful summer day.
