The bond between father and child is very special. Father’s play an integral role in reinforcing the various emotions in child’s development from birth to adolescence and making them stronger from within to face the world. On this Father’s Day, I have these awesome travelers from around the world who have shared their dream destinations, where they wish to take their father one day for a perfect getaway. Sit, relax and enjoy these dream destinations for father – daughter/son perfect getaways from the eyes of these 21 awesome travelers!
1) Istanbul, Turkey
By Laura Studen from Girl x Departure
Recently, I moved back to my hometown Berlin after spending ten months living and studying abroad in the beautiful city of Istanbul. Unfortunately, my dad didn’t have the chance to visit me during that time, so that I would love to take him on a trip to Istanbul to show him my favorite places and hidden gems that I have discovered.
2) San José del Cabo, Mexico
By Claire Shefchik from Princess of Pirates
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico is packed with courses for my golf-mad dad, and the surf break at Cerritos is the perfect place for me to catch some waves. We’ll head to the charming town of Todos Santos to stay at the real-life Hotel California, then load up on ocean-fresh street ceviche. Finally, enlist a local guide to take us fishing for gigantic tuna and get up close with some humpback whales.
3) Prague, Czech Republic
By Hannah & Adam from Getting Stamped
I’d love to travel to Prague with my dad, there are so many things to do in Prague that I know he’d instantly love it. The beer scene in Prague would be right up my dad’s alley and I know he’d enjoy a good ole pork knuckle dinner! Wondering around the cobblestone streets of Prague sounds like the perfect father-daughter trip to me, pack your bag dad!
4) Piedmont, Italy
By Janice Hopper from Tots 2 Travel
One of the simple pleasures in life is eating and drinking with family. Piedmont is the home of the Slow Food movement, so great food in stunning scenery is the norm. My father would also love the wine tasting available. I’d like to raise a glass of Barolo or Barbaresco, or perhaps a sparkling glass of Asti. Throw in a trip to the Fiat museum in Turin and you’ve got a Father’s Day break that’s unbeatable!
5) Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England
By Vyjay from Voyager
“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears: I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.”
The booming voice of my father waxing eloquent on his beloved Shakespeare transcends time and echoes in my ears. Somerset Maugham, Victor Hugo, Thomas Hardy and many other masters vied with each other for space in my father’s library, but the pride of place in the sanctum sanctorum was obviously reserved for, “The Bard of Avon”. I have a dream, a dream to take my father on a pilgrimage, a pilgrimage to Stratford-upon-Avon. I can imagine the joy in his eyes as he sets sight on the land where the great William Shakespeare was born. I can feel the spring in his step as he treads on the very land that Shakespeare once walked on. I can feel the moistness in his eyes when he sees the church where the great master is buried along with his wife Anne Hathaway. “To be, or not to be, is the question”.
6) The Louvre, Paris
By Carlie G from A Cajun in Cali
The Louvre in Paris is the one place in the world I’d love to go with my father. As an artist, he taught me to appreciate the fine brushstrokes and chiseled physiques that adorn the walls and halls of the Louvre. And while I’ve had the opportunity to visit, he sadly has not. I remember thinking to myself “he would love it here.” And he would!
7) Khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh, India
By Purba Mazumdar from Four Blissful Feet
My choice for a Father-Daughter getaway would be Khajjiar in Himachal Pradesh, and this would be kind of a Father’s Month thing. After his retirement, my dad has been thinking of writing a book. We always discuss how a nice peaceful locale in the hills could make for a great writing setup. The best destination that always comes to his mind is Khajjiar. Although he has already been to Khajjiar once, the beauty of the place charmed him so much that he wishes to spend at least an entire month there to work on his book. As for me, being a travel blogger and never having traveled to Khajjiar, it would be a great long getaway to explore the ‘Mini Switzerland’ of India at a slow pace.
8) African Safari
By Shandos Cleaver from Travelnuity
I would love to take my Dad on an African Safari. There is such a plethora of animals to see, and it’s breathtaking how close you can get to them, just the door of a jeep separating yourself from a man-eating lion or a huge elephant. I’ve previously been on safari in Tanzania, but it would be amazing to take my dad to one anywhere in southern Africa.
9) Utah, USA
By Tiffany Stroud from Seeing Sunshine
For whatever reason, my dad has always wanted to visit Utah. He’s an outdoorsman, and I would love to take him to Utah to visit the beautiful scenery. We would take a jeep tour or explore on a four-door Rzr – something he’s always wanted, checking out Bryce Canyon and Moab. We’d get great tans and breathtaking photos. It would be a father-daughter trip to remember!
10) Fraser Island, Australia
By Sally Cochrane from Safe Travels By Sally
This Father’s Day is especially important to me as my dad has been away for the past 3 years traveling the world on his motorbike, currently in South America. During his return, I would love to take him to Fraser Island where we visited years ago. I want to spend a relaxing week on the beach, float down Eli Creek and walk the rainforest trail of Central Station along with my dad for a perfect father-daughter getaway!
11) Niagara Falls, USA/Canada
By Rosirma Corney from Rosiescapes
My dad always wanted to visit Niagara Falls. He just became a US citizen, he is originally from Haiti. So I told him to apply for a passport. When he finally received it, he was elated. My dad didn’t want to fly. He likes the scenic route. Thus, we went to Port Authority in NYC and bought round-trip bus tickets to Niagara Falls. After the 10 hour ride, we made it to the border and he showed his passport. I was so happy for my dad. Finally, it was time to see the falls. We went to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. That was my first road trip with my dad!
12) Cairo, Egypt
By Ratisha Goyal from The Thinking Lounge
The love for history and archaeology, I’ve inherited from my father. We would read and talk about world history, especially ancient civilizations and Egyptian has always fascinated us beyond limits for its legends and architecture shrouded in mystery. Together we want to time travel through the alleys of enchanting Egyptian history and let it unravel before our eyes.
13) Isla del Sol, Titicaca Lake, Bolivia
By Ruben Arribas from Gamin Traveler
The place that I would love to take my father is Isla del Sol in Titicaca Lake (Bolivia). Isla del Sol is a perfect place for relaxing and hiking. You can enjoy nice conversations while walking and looking around – the place is full of great scenery and amazing landscapes. You can also take the time to explore local life. Isla del Sol will show you a very simple life, and you won’t need too much luxury. A week in Isla del Sol is a nice place for you to relax, think about life, have the downtime you need if in case you’ve been traveling for a long time, or enjoy drinking wine with your father – and it’s even cheaper!
14) El Caminito del Rey, Andalusia, Spain
By Alice Taylor from Fall For Spain
El Caminito del Rey is a 7 km board walk high up in Andalusia, Spain. The walk was closed due to being dangerous but this year has been reopened to the public. I’d like to take my father there as we both love adrenaline boosting activities and living life to the full. I think it would be a really great bonding experience and an amazing way to spend fathers day!
15) Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
By Matilda Geroulis from The Travel Sisters
Trekking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda is the perfect trip for this father/daughter. Dad and I share a love for wildlife and adventure and spent countless hours watching nature shows together when I was a kid. Anything involving the “human-like” mountain gorillas was a particular favorite so observing an enormous silverback and family would be the ultimate experience.
16) Jigokudani Yaen Kōen / Jigokudani Monkey Park, Japan
By Patti from The Savvy Globetrotter
Jigokudani Yaen Kōen (aka Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park) in Japan is top on my list for a father/daughter trip. The main attraction is a group of Japanese macaques (snow monkeys) famous for red faces and hot spring antics. The monkeys congregate around an onsen hot spring where they soak, play and relax. My dad, a wildlife enthusiast who appreciates quirky experiences, would absolutely love this!
17) Giza Pyramids, Egypt
By Emily Kydd from See Her Travel
My dad loves the sport of squash. I love to travel. It would be a dream to combine our passions and visit Egypt; a country known for the Giza Pyramids and for powerhouse squash players. Every so often, a portable glass squash court is erected at the pyramids, and some of the World’s top players gather to duke it out. I can’t imagine a more incredible event to be with Dad!
18) London, England
By Erin Bender from Travel With Bender
My father is originally from England. And I would love to take him back so we could explore our ancestral heritage. We’d tour London on a red double-decker bus. We’d pretend we were clocks at Big Ben and ride the London Eye. We’d explore the desolate cells of the Tower of London and take a day trip out to the mysterious Stonehenge. There is so much history in London and I’d love to explore that with him, his original home. A place where we can bond with each other and our families through time.
19) South Africa
By Lavina Dsouza from A Capricious Compass
My dad hardly has any interests, other than wildlife! He’s in the happiest mood whenever he’s watching National Geographic or Animal Planet, at home! South Africa would be an ideal location for a great safari as it’s not as expensive as the other African countries yet has all the amazing animals you could wish to see in the wild! He would be thrilled! And it has a lovely coastline too! To slow down and spend some time watching the waves and relishing sea-food!
20) India
By Jonathan Howe from Two Monkeys Travel Group
I have been extremely lucky to have grown up living in different countries in Africa, thanks to the adventurous streak of my parents and their willingness to take big risks in life. Now that we have the travel life we’ve always dreamed of, I’d love to see my father have the chance to visit his own dream destination – India! Colour, noise, mayhem, excitement, magic… I know how much he would love to see all of it!
21) New Zealand
My favorite place father-daughter getaway
My dad is the “Lord of the Rings” fanatic. Therefore, my dream is to take him on a trip to New Zealand to explore the map of Middle Earth. New Zealand has an amazing range of breathtaking scenery, from subtropical forests, beaches and offshore islands in the north to glaciers, lakes, snow-covered mountains and large flat plains in the south. There are also fjords, volcanoes, hot springs and beautiful rolling green pastures making it the most surreal and splendid place on earth. It would be a perfect vacation getaway for father-daughter to explore the natural wonders of this beautiful country!

June 16, 2016This was so sweet to read–how everyone put so much thought into deciding on a special place they’d love to go with their dad someday. For me, it would be China. Probably Xi’an, Chengdu, ShangHai–maybe Beijing as well. My Dad really, really wants to go to China. He’s an adventurous traveler and I speak Mandarin so we’d make a pretty good travel pair in that country!
