Miami, FL | Things To Do For An Ultimate Girls Weekend Getaway
From the swaying palm trees to the splendid Atlantic beaches, from the buzzing nightlife and entertainment to the scrumptious food and culture, Miami is well-renowned as one of the hottest tourist destinations in the world. Miami is also a paradise for the sun-seekers and beach lovers to escape winter and enjoy the sunshine with unparalleled luxury and natural beauty. Considering all these points, it was our perfect excuse to take a quick weekend girls getaway.
For all the first timers, before heading to Miami, you should know that technically Miami and Miami Beach are two different cities and therefore, based on my recent girls trip, I’ve put together some of the amazing things that you can do with your girlfriends to make the most out of your Miami weekend getaway.
1) Watch the magical Miami Beach Sunrise
Nothing is more magical than watching the sunrise of Miami Beach. I admit that getting up early in the morning could be a herculean task after partying late night but its totally worth it. Plus, it will give you an opportunity to capture some epic shots to make your trip memorable for the lifetime.
2) Lounge around the pool
Lounging around the pool in Miami is one of the top goals of having fun in the sun. Miami is known worldwide for its sizzling pool parties where guests will be chilling around the pool, sipping juicy umbrella drinks and enjoying the sunshine.
We stayed at The Confidante Miami Beach and they had a pool party on Saturday with a live band performance playing some cool tracks. We spent a few hours hanging there.
3) Spend some time on the beach
OK! So I don’t need to remind you this because it is one of the main attractions of Miami Beach. Spend some time playing with the undulating waves of Atlantic Ocean along with your girlfriends while re-living that little girl in you and making some priceless memories to treasure for the lifetime.
4) Go for any Bayside Marketplace boat tours
Bayside Marketplace is one of the coolest places in downtown Miami. There’re many Bayside Marketplace boat tours available which are a perfect way to spend some good times over Biscayne Bay and soaking the view of breathtaking Miami skylines as well as watching the beautiful houses of rich and famous.
5) Dine at any Bayside restaurant while soaking the splendid view
Bayside Marketplace has some wonderful shopping and dining options available with music and entertainment. Though ready to pay the tourist price as everything is a bit pricey. However, it is a great place for people-watching and soaking the view while enjoying your food.
We went to Tradewinds Bar and Grill and they had some amazing seafood options. I’m allergic to seafood but my friends really loved their meals.
6) Party at Ocean Drive
No trip to Miami Beach would be complete without visiting Ocean Drive. It is one of the most iconic streets and has been featured in many movies and TV series. From its pastel-hued, art deco buildings to its colorful nightlife, it is the first thing that comes to mind when people think of quintessential Miami.
We went to Clevelander Hotel – one of the iconic entertainment venues on the Ocean Drive where you can eat, drink, dance and have the time of your life. The best part is there’s no entry fee for the girls. We also went to Mango’s Tropical Cafe – a great place for dinner with lively Latin music and entertainment.
7) Visit Little Havana
If you want to see a different side of Miami, visit Little Havana – a vibrant Cuban neighborhood located just west of Downtown Miami. From its unique art galleries to colorful murals, from its Cuban cuisine to Cigar shops, from intense games of dominoes to strong cafecitos, the lively Calle Ocho strip will let your senses transport you to the Cuban capital.
We went to Ball & Chain – one of the iconic places in Little Havana famous for its Cuban-style food and drinks with live entertainment. At night, it turns into the hottest nightclub with live Latin music, salsa dancing and incredibly delicious food and drinks.
We also went to a Cigar factory where we saw the process of cigar-making in action as well as my girlfriends bought cigars as their souvenirs for our girls getaway.
If you’re a coffee lover, you must stop at La Colada Gourmet “The House of Cuban Coffee” in Little Havana. It is a cozy, friendly ambiance and the owner took an extra effort to explain to us about types of Cuban coffee and how it is a part of their culture. Try capablanca or any other coffee here and I bet everything will taste divine!
8) Stroll around Lincoln Road Mall & Washington Avenue
Lincoln Road Mall is South Florida’s premier shopping and dining destination lined with splendid palm trees located parallel between 16th and 17th Street in Miami Beach whereas Washington Avenue is home to boutiques, cafes and the city’s most popular nightclubs.
Stroll around Miami’s charming Española Way and take a journey back in time through Old World Europe where you’ll witness palm tree-lined pedestrian street with string lights twinkling overhead and one of the coolest spots for patio dining. Española Way is located North of 14th Street between Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues.
Española Way is an old World throwback in the heart of South Beach and you must visit to try some authentic Spanish, Italian, Mexican and Chinese cuisines as per your taste.
If you’re fond of an Indian food, do visit Taj Mahal Bengal Indian restaurant on Washington Avenue. The restaurant was crowded, the service was slow but the food was divine. Try their house special ‘Dal Tadka‘ and you can thank me later!
9) Bike & roll over Miami Beach
Miami Beach has some of the most scenic biking paths. If you’ve got time on your trip, rent a bike, put two wheels down and enjoy the fullest!
10) Do slumber party in your hotel’s room
Nothing can beat the experience of talking with your gal pals and catching up everything about their lives. I was meeting with my girls after 5 years, so we had a lot to catch-up. We had some of the best conversations of our lives filled with fun, joy and laughter. Can’t share more details as whatever happened on our girls getaway should stay in Miami only! 😉
If you’ve got more time on your girls getaway, you can also visit Miami’s Wynwood Art District as well as rent a car, drive on surreal US 1 Highway and visit Key West.
I’ve been to Miami for a couple of times for work, solo-trip, media-trips, long-weekend with my hubby but this time it was a quite different experience as I got a chance to explore the different side of Miami with my girlfriends. If you’re still thinking of a girls weekend getaway destination, I bet Miami won’t disappoint you.
Thanks a ton Miami for giving us some of the best memories of our lives!
If you’ve been to Miami, tell me about your experience or one of your favorite things to do there. If you haven’t been to Miami, what do you think about this destination?
Till then, Happy Wandering!
Love,
Ana
