Bangalore Palace | 5 Things To Do During Your Visit

Located in Bengaluru — the city of colonial heritage, Bangalore Palace is an epitome of splendid architecture, beauty, and opulence.  Whether you’re planning your trip to ‘Silicon Valley of India’ for work or leisure, a visit to Bangalore Palace would be a great opportunity to take a glimpse of Bengaluru’s rich history.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you must be aware that I’m in India now and my plans in the coming few months are to explore various gems of my country. So, exploring Bangalore Palace was among the top of my India bucket list.

Based on my last visit, here’s the list of 5 things to do at Bangalore Palace during your visit to enjoy the most of your time.

1) Admire Bangalore Palace architecture

Bangalore Palace is a paradise for architecture lovers. The architecture is blends of Tudor and Scottish Gothic and inspired by Windsor Castle, London. It was built in 1878 and owned by Rev. J. Garett. Later it was bought by the royal family of Mysore who still owns the palace.

2) Take an audio tour of the palace

The admission to the Bangalore Palace also includes a free 60-minutes audio tour that gives you information about the history and saga of the Mysore royal Wadiyar family.  From original stuffed elephant head to Coat of Arms awarded by the British to Maharaja to magnificent ballroom and courtyards, the audio tour gives you a glimpse of royalty and culturally rich heritage of India.

What I’ve seen during my visit is they also don’t sanitize the earplugs of the headphones. So, keep a sanitizer wipes.

3) Take some home interior inspiration

From vibrant yellow walls to the colorful ceramic tiles to lavish chandeliers on the ceilings, the interiors of the Bangalore Palace are the ultimate pieces of art.  Whether you need some inspiration for floor tiles, granite work or artwork on the walls and ceilings, the Bangalore Palace has plenty to offer.

4) Take plenty of pictures

Bangalore Palace has many spots for taking gazillions of Instagram-worthy pictures. Though you’ve to pay extra money if you’re taking DSLR or still camera inside the palace. There’s also an extra fee if you want to carry a professional video camera.

Paying for a camera is worth it in case you want to capture some breathtaking interior shots of the Bangalore Palace. Let the below pictures speak for themselves!

After taking a tour inside the palace,  stroll around the garden and enjoy Bengaluru’s weather. The garden is well-maintained and you can explore plenty of beautiful fauna and flora around.

Some important tips before your visit

  • Nearest Airport: Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
  • Best time to visit Bengaluru: October to February or March to May. Avoid Monsoon seasons i.e. June to September.
  • There’s only one restroom at the beginning of the entrance of the palace. It wasn’t clean during my visit and there was also no toilet paper. So, carry toilet paper and hand sanitizer if you’re using public restrooms in India.
  • Carry sanitizer wipes for cleaning earphones of audio devices as they don’t sanitize it.
  • There is also no food or water available inside or outside the palace. Carry your own water bottle. You’re also not allowed to carry any edible items inside.
  • Wear some bright flowy dress as there’re plenty of spots inside and outside the Bangalore Palace where you would like to twirl and capture some amazing shots.

    1. Bangalore Palace looks like an incredible place to explore. So many interesting things to see, I’d totally pay extra to take in my DSLR camera. Good to note about there only being one bathroom, so I know to go before we start to explore!
