6 Indian Street Food That You Must Try
Whether you’ve tried street food across the world or not, nothing can beat the exotic flavors of mouth-watering and lip-smacking Indian street food. From contrasting and complementary flavors ranging from sweet, tangy, or savory to textures from crispy, creamy and soft, Indian street food is a culinary paradise. If you’ve never visited India before, don’t worry as I’ve covered 6 popular Indian street food that you must try which can also be available in any Indian restaurant across the world.
1) Panipuri
Also famed as Phuchka, Golgappa, Paani Patashi, Pani ke Batashe, Gup-chup and Fulki in different regions of India, Panipuri is one of India’s most popular and loved street foods. The crisp fried dough balls are made up of Semolina or All-purpose flour. The crispy balls are filled with mashed potatoes, grams and different spices as well as tangy to sweetish water depending upon your taste. Before trying Panipuri, don’t forget to tell about your spice level to a street vendor or server in a restaurant and you can thank me later! 😉
2) Samosa
Samosa is another popular street food snack in India that originated in the Middle East & Central Asia. The Indian version of Samosa is a deep-fried or baked triangular made up of All-purpose flour pastry with a savory filling mixture of spiced potatoes, onions, peas etc. It is served with Chutney or ketchup in India. Samosa tastes incredible with hot chai. It is also served as a perfect appetizer in Indian restaurants.
3) Jalebi
Jalebi is one of my favorite Indian desserts and you must try it at once in your life. It is a divine treat for all those having a sweet tooth. The spiral and crispy Jalebi comprises the batter of All-purpose flour which are deep-fried and soaked in sugar syrup. The piping hot Jalebis are served with curd or Rabri in the various parts of India as a morning or an evening snack. You can also find Jalebis served in desserts among most of the popular Indian restaurants across the world.
4) Aloo Chat
You will hardly find any Indian who isn’t fond of Aloo Chaat! It is one of the most popular street foods among the Indian subcontinent. The dish has many variations across different regions in India. Aloo Chaat comprises deep-fried or unfried boiled potatoes and a delicious medley of various spices, chickpeas, gram peas and Chutneys.Â
5) Dosa
A Dosa is an Indian version of pancakes from South India, but one of the favorite foods across India. From breakfast to lunch to dinner, Indians love to eat their Dosa anytime. It is made up of thin crepe of fermented rice and lentil batter. In India, more than a hundred varieties of Dosa are served. However, the most popular variety is Masala Dosa which has a filling of spicy potatoes masala and served with Sambhar & various Chutneys. Some other popular varieties of Dosas are Mysore Masala, Rava Dosa, Sada Dosa and Onion Rava Dosa to name a few.
6) Lassi
Lassi is one of the favorite Summer drinks of Indians. Even some of my Floridian friends also rave about it. If you’ve never tried any Indian food before and have no idea how spicy it is, you should definitely order a glass of Lassi. It is made up of a blend of yogurt, water, spices, sugar/salt and sometimes fruit. Mango Lassi is one of my all-time favorites and comprises yogurt, milk and mango pulp. Sometimes, pistachio nuts are sprinkled on the top of Lassi.
Do share your experience if you’ve ever tried any of the above mentioned 6 Indian street food in the comments below? If not, which one would you like to try?

May 11, 2020Oh yes, Pani Puri on the top. I expected to find Pav Bhaji too but am good with Aloo Chat. Not a big fan of Samosa but would replace that with Kachori. And yes, Lassi to soothe the tingling tongue. Well done Ana, Cheers
