…And I met the Whales!
Have you ever seen Killer whales…?
Killer whales are found in the open ocean, but they seem to be most abundant in coastal waters. Killer whales are most abundant in the Pacific Northwest, along northern Norway’s coast in the Atlantic and in the higher latitudes of the Southern Ocean. But you can see them at SeaWorld, Orlando, Florida as they present everyday show -Shamu “One Ocean”. This is one of the main attractions of the SeaWorld.
Shamu is the name used for several SeaWorld orca (killer whale) shows and is the stage name given to the “star” of those shows, beginning with the original Shamu in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The orca Shamu died in 1971, but the name Shamu was trademarked by SeaWorld. (Source: Wikipedia)
Shamu performs at Shamu Stadium multiple times during the day. I loved this thrilling show and had moved emotion and awe. I loved the gesture of Shamu when her trainer was cuddling her and she was lying there like a baby.
The goodbye of Shamu was very sweet and emotional when they waved audiences by their fins. They looked adorable.
To have a glimpse of the Shamu’s show, check out this video.
There is Shamu special show in the evening during Christmas time. It’s Shamu Christmas Miracles. The ambiance of this show bursts with holiday cheer. Music is provided by upbeat classic holiday favorites. This performance will take you on a stirring voyage into the heart of the holidays.

Overall I had an amazing experience at SeaWorld. There are plenty of things to explore but my favorite attractions were Shamu and Penguins. (You can check about my earlier post on my experience with the Penguins here).
If you have visited SeaWorld, do share your memories in the comments below.
Happy Traveling,

December 15, 2015I watched this show way back before it became big news. Have you ever watched Black Fish? That documentary was a true eye opener and since then I condemn them everywhere. If I were ever to have kids they wouldn’t ever get to go to SeaWorld or any such park. I’d rather they see them in their natural environment and experience that then be brought to think that such shows are the greatest things ever..

December 13, 2015Hi, Ana
View CommentI love the animals. They are very smart that they can perform so well.
We used to bring our kids (when they were little) to the Marine World in Vallejo, CA to see the performance of the killer whales. We were all excited. I believe the shows in Florida are more fantastic than that in Vallejo.
We will plan to visit there someday!

December 9, 2015Hey Ana,
I love these big beautiful animals. They are stunning. I always wonder how they train them. I know it is by food as a reward. But how do you get them to understand to go to the crowd and flip a whole lot of water at them? How do you reinforce that. Anyway that is why we enjoy the show because we see things that have our minds bamboozled. I really enjoy your outings and shares. You must have a lot of fun getting out and about seeing all the sights. And what a great reason; to write about them.
Thanks for a wonderful post.
Rachel.

December 9, 2015Hey Hi Rachel,
Shamu show is one of the most controversial show of the SeaWorld. Many trainers have lost their lives during the training of the killer whales. I interacted with one of the trainer and got to know that it’s quite dangerous. All depends upon the mood of whales. Sometimes they are bit aggressive and therefore trainers have stopped diving in the pool along with Shamu during the show. Trainers entice whales for their food but it’s quite dangerous. Overall it was an amazing experience. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead! 🙂
