How To Prepare For A City Getaway?

Whether you’re jetting off for a romantic break away with your partner, or you’re planning a full family holiday, you still need to make sure you plan properly. For our next break away, I’m looking at popular European cities, and if you want some tips how to stay organized for a city getaway, read on…!

Book well in advance

Most people think that this just applies to the flights and accommodation, but while this is true, there is so much more you can do in advance to remove the stress of the actual trip. Right now, there are tons of travel agents and online booking sites that are offering deals. While everyone else is saving the pennies after having overspent at Christmas, you could grab a brilliant bargain on a city break.

Are you going to a trade show or an exhibition? Think about the specific activities you’re planning your trip around, and always try to book these as far in advance as possible for the best rate. In our case, I’m looking at traveling to Vienna and would love to be able to take in an opera or ballet while I’m there. Vienna Opera Tickets has a full schedule of performances and allows you to book these online too.

Book your accommodation wisely

I know it’s tempting to just look at what deals are on offer and where you can save money, but there’s no point in booking a hotel or apartment that is too far away from where you want to be. While you might get a cheaper deal staying further away from the action, you’ll only spend more on transport if it’s too far away from the essentials.

My top tip here is to do some thorough research on all the attractions you want to visit and places you want to go, and then search for deals close to those areas. You may well get a better rate by looking directly on a hotel’s website, as they will post offers that aren’t available elsewhere.

Plan your routes

When you finally reach your destination of choice, one of the most stressful parts of a holiday can begin almost immediately: the arguing over where to go and how to get there. Chances are that your mobile data won’t work abroad, and if it does, you probably don’t want to risk racking up a huge phone bill, in which case you’ll need to thoroughly plan your routes.

How To Prepare For A City Getaway?Work out which areas you want to explore, what activities you want to do and which local events you want to go to on each day of your stay so that there won’t be any bickering between family members. If you have kids, remember to get them involved at the early stage so they don’t get upset about not being able to choose an attraction of their own.

    1. I am guilty of never planning anything in advance lol. To me, that is part of the fun. That being said, I have found myself in a bind from time to time, especially if I am staying in a city/popular places. This is all very good advice!

    1. I think any traveling should be open to both planning and spontenaeity and a nice mix of two really makes the visit worthwhile!

    1. I think your list was accurate. Hotel, transportation to the destination and the activities you plan when you arrive are the most important. I would also need to add entertainment/distractions for kids traveling with me (if they came, lol) and animal arrangements for my dog.
