Summer Vacation in Australia: 5 Packing Must-Haves

Planning a trip to Down Under? You’re in for an adventure! Since the climate is very varied depending on where you are, packing can be a bit of an issue. What do you bring to make sure your vacation is comfortable and that you don’t lack in anything? To help you out, we’ve got a list of five essentials that should definitely find a place in your suitcase.

1) Sunscreen

There are few things quite as hot as the Australian sun, and bringing a high enough SPF to protect you from it is quite essential. We suggest that you get a good sunscreen that gives both UVA and UVB protection and that you apply it regularly, especially to your face. If you’re at the beach, reapplying your sunscreen every two-three hours might be necessary. And remember, even if you don’t burn easily in the sun, it will still damage your skin and cause premature aging, so make a habit of using creams with SPF religiously, especially if you spend a lot of time outside. Sun damage comes in form of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, not just redness and blistering, so this is practically the best anti-aging treatment you could give yourself. Here are a few tips on proper sunscreen application that should help you stay safe outdoors.

2) Camera

Australia is just too beautiful for you to go through it without documenting memories, so make sure you also have a big enough of a memory card with you. We bet you’ll be tempted to snap a pic every two minutes! Canon EOS 5DS R is one of the best gadgets you can grab for landscape photography, but any sort of camera with a high pixel count should do the trick. Impress your friends with beautiful photos of Australian urban areas and wilderness.

3) Headphones

Australia is huge. Beside long travel time on the plane, you’ll also probably have to deal with long car and bus rides to get from one city to the next. It’s good to have a few strategies to pass the time, so we suggest grabbing your music player, a pair of killer headphones, and letting your favorite songs relax you. There are some really great headphones in Australia that you can check out if you love quality paired with design, and they can definitely act as a cool accessory as well. Bring your music with you and the trip won’t get the chance to ever get boring.

4) Shoes and clothes

Skip the jeans but do bring several pairs of shorts and linen pants, and don’t forget a warm rain-proof jacket just in case. Maxi skirts, dresses, and a good one-piece bathing suit are also great and make sure to bring a sarong as well for an easy fashionable detail and as a cover-up. Hats, sunglasses, sneakers, sandals, and flip-flops should also be in your bag. Everything you bring should definitely be comfortable.

5) Small bag

A small bag where you can keep personal belongings and anything you might need to grab quickly should always be slung over your shoulder or your back. In it, you should have a water bottle, your wallet, phone, camera, music player, sunglasses, and maybe a deck of cards or a portable board game that will keep you company on the flight. If you’re a book lover, keep a light-hearted paperback there as well, because it comes really handy at the beach and while you’re waiting in the queue.

One last thing – don’t forget your good mood! Australia is sunny, fun, and friendly, so mingle with the locals, explore, and enjoy your trip!

    1. These are all great tips. We do check the weather forecast in the place we intend to visit before we plan on what to pack. I think that would be the best way to make sure you have the right clothes and footwear to take with you on the trip.
