Top 5 Golden Gate Bridge Views for Photography

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world and the wonders of modern engineering. This 4,200-foot suspension bridge of vermillion orange color symbolizes San Francisco and stands as proud testaments to the ingenuity and grace of the structure’s design. No doubt, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the favorite subjects for photographers, travelers and tourists visiting San Francisco. There are more than thousands of spots from where you can capture the Golden Gate and I bet that no two frames will be similar.

On my recent trip to California, watching the Golden Gate Bridge was on the top of my bucket list. So, if you’re planning to visit the city soon, check out five of my favorite spots to capture the glory of the Golden Gate Bridge in its full swing!

1) Golden Gate Bridge Vista Points

The Vista Points are one of the most popular landmarks of watching the Gold Gate Bridge among tourists and anyone visiting San Francisco for the first time. It has two points – The North Vista Point and The South Vista Point.

a) North Vista Point

The North Vista Point is opposite to the city on the Marin side. It has breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline and plenty of picture-perfect spots for photography. This point is only accessible through northbound US 101 when you drive across the bridge. However, you’ve to pay a toll in case you want to return to the city again.Top 5 Golden Gate Bridge Views for Photography

The best way to avoid the toll is by walking or cycling from South Vista Point. The walk from one side of the bridge to another usually takes half an hour but it is totally worth it. You’ll come across many splendid views of the bay area, the city and the Marin County.

The North Vista Point also has public parking which is free for up to 4 hours. Though finding parking is a challenge. There are restrooms also available.

b) South Vista Point

South Vista Point is on the city side from where the Golden Gate Bridge starts. It has a welcome center, cafe, restrooms, gift shop and an exhibit showcasing a bridge cable. Usually, South Vista Point is always buzzing with the crowd.

Either go early on the weekdays or late evenings and you’ll find plenty of cool spots to take some amazing shots of the Golden Gate Bridge. Please note that there’s a limited metered parking which is mostly full. Also, you need to pay a hefty fine in case your parking meter expired.

2) Fort Point

Fort Point is a national historic site. It was built by the U.S. Army to protect San Francisco Bay. If you’re looking for a different perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll find many cool spots to capture the essence of the bridge as you’ll be directly under it. The only thing you should keep in mind while visiting Fort Point is checking the time of the year before you go as they are different for Summer and Winter. The admission to the fort is free.

3) Baker Beach

If you want to see the Golden Gate Bridge with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the Marin Headlands on the other side, Baker Bridge offers some spectacular views for photography. The beach has two free parking lots but do try to reach early before noon on any sunny weekends as parking gets filled very quickly.

4)  Alcatraz Cruises

It is said that no trip of the first-timers to San Francisco would be complete if you haven’t visited Alcatraz Island. On clear sunny days, you can witness some of the magnificent views of the Golden Gate Bridge from Alcatraz Cruise ferry as well as Alcatraz Island. Though you need some zoom lens for photography.

5) Battery Spencer

If you want to beat the crowd and take some epic shots of the Golden Gate Bridge, Battery Spencer is a great spot for photography from the northern side. The only drawback is that you need to have your own car as it might be difficult for Lyft/Uber to get back.
