Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 | My Entire Experience
Lakmé Fashion Week is India’s leading 5-day fashion extravaganza created with a vision to redefine the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world. Organized by Lakmé and IMG Reliance Pvt. Ltd., the event occurs every twice a year in Mumbai. Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 was held between February 12th to 16th of this month and celebrated a 20-year anniversary of curated fashion experience. Growing up in India and fascinated by B-town and glitzy glamor of Indian fashion, attending LFW was on the top of my wishlist for the past few years. I was really excited when I got an invitation to attend the event last week. It was like a dream come true!
I didn’t attend the event scheduled on all the 5-days due to my other project commitments. However, I’m delighted to share my Day 4 experience with Y’all. Sit, relax and scroll down to take a glimpse of the work of some incredibly talented Indian designers!
Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 shows that I’ve attended
1) Punit Balana
The first show that I attended at LFW S/R20 was of a renowned designer Punit Balana who is known for dressing Bollywood celebrities like Raveena Tandon, Vidya Balan and Kriti Sanon. His collection “The Royal Bagh” depicted a vision of ultra glamour inspired by the Sisodia Rani Palace Garden of Jaipur and the Rajwaras of Rajasthan. I really loved Punit’s festive line with pink and steel grey pieces of cholis, kalidar kurtas shararas, with tassels or latkans, dhoti pants with flared kurtas and crinkled kurta with pants made fashion statements.
The showstopper of Punit Balana’s show was Tara Sutaria who delighted the audience with her pale pink silk luxuriously shimmering lehenga with tantalising latkans, a gleaming choli and delicate dupatta. Her outfit was a real treat to eyes!
2) SVA by Sonam & Paras Modi
The SVA label by Sonam and Paras Modi showcased their “Galeecha” collection. The abstract textures with geometric prints and fluid florals merged the contemporary resort wear looks. Kaftans, maxis and skater dresses were some of the popular pieces from the collection. Even for the men collection, Jodhpuri suit with embroidery, a kurta, Bundi, trousers and stole quartet, waistcoats, and an assortment of Bundies and kurtas gave the male dresser ample choices in the coming seasons.
The showstopper of the show was Bollywood actor Alaya F who looked stunning in her multicolored, long-sleeved blouse paired with a geometrical skirt and looked like a bohemian princess in a graphic.
3) DPA presents The Real Cut Season 3
The 3rd edition of ‘The Real Cut’ Show by the Diamond Producers Association (DPA) was a unique show presented at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020. The show featured six creative natural diamond jewelry designers who were selected from 59 promising applicants in India. These talented designers were Deepa Agarwal for Sona Chandi Jewellers, Kinnari Shah from Reliance Jewels, Riddhi Shah for B R Designs, Ashraf Motiwala & Team for A S Motiwala, Sourav Hanra for Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers and Subhajit Bag for Senco Gold and Diamonds to name a few.
4) Rohit Bal
Ace designer Rohit Bal launched his denim collection for men called “Alexander” where shirtless male models were parading the ground. The denim was reloaded with patchworks and embroidery. I hope he launches a similar collection for women too soon!
5) Corcal Bone & Beauty presents Payal Singhal
Payal Singhal — one of the well-renowned designers in the Indian fashion industry launched her collection ‘Parvaneh’ (Persian for ‘butterfly) presented by Corcal Bone & Beauty to celebrate beautifully strong women. Payal’s collection showcased modern nuances combined with traditional art in the line.
The captain of the Indian cricket team, Mithali Raj made her catwalk debut and was the showstopper. She looked gorgeous in a pale blush off-shoulder top and lehenga with appliqué and zardosi work.
6) Jade by Monica & Karishma
Jade by Monica and Karishma unveiled ‘A Summer Sonnet’ collection that embodied the elegance of women’s wear. The collection had the grand kaleidoscopic touch incorporating the traditional techniques like Ek Taar work, the gorgeous tie and dye, traditional patchwork, intricate beadwork, surface texturing and Kantha embroidery were splashed with great care and love on the luxuriant silk, organza and tulle. The embellished surfaces with printed blooms, cutwork lace and ornate thread work were some of the highlights of this collection.
7) R|Elan presents Pankaj & Nidhi
The last show that I attended at LFW S/R20 was of the designer duo Pankaj and Nidhi. They presented ‘ArtFluence’ collection that focused on sustainable fashion. Their collection provided a perfect blend of functionality, enhancement and fashion that set amidst summer-inspired silhouettes. Pankaj and Nidhi’s collection brought to life painterly floral bouquets on diaphanous organza’s and lustrous twills, whilst fifties wallpaper patterns adorn youthful shapes and separates.
The showstopper of the show was a famous Bollywood diva Shraddha Kapoor. Her outfit was made of denim and green-gold fabrics made of used PET bottles and promoting sustainable fashion.
How was my entire experience at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020?
I absolutely had a blast attending Day 4 of LFW S/R20. I wish I had more time to attend all the shows, but a girl had her commitments. Attending Lakmé Fashion Week was an overwhelming experience. The entire experience is very different from New York Fashion Week as all the shows were held at the same premises. You’ll also get a chance to see a few Bollywood celebrities and renowned sports personalities walking the ramp. However, in NYFW, you’ll mostly see professional models walking the ramp. Overall, if you ever get a chance to attend LFW, do visit and see how Indian fashion has evolved and Indian designers are setting milestones.
